Seasoned comedian Ntando Van Moyo is set to redefine himself as an impactful jester when he staged a one-man-show on 12 August, exactly after seven years since he headlined a solo gig.
Dubbed “Does It Really Matter?” the much-anticipated gig will be held at a venue yet to be announced. The founder of Umahlekisa Comedy Club said he was diverting all his energy to promoting up-and-coming comedians through the club’s academy for the past years.
As he makes a return to focus on himself as a brand, Ntando said a lot will be expected at his solo upcoming event as he will portray a splendid performance that will touch on different thematic concerns from politics, sports, and economics.
“It’s been seven years without doing a solo show and I felt people have been starved of my niche of comedy for too long, hence that is when the idea of this upcoming gig was brewed. I will strictly perform alone on the entire set, with Sipho Mercent Nyathi being a master of ceremony.
“A lot of things have been happening around the world that prompted the name of the show because when you realise on some issues its history repeating itself from mjolo to politics, sports, and economics, so it’s a matter of asking — from all the things that are happening, do they really matter?,” said Ntando Van Moyo.
He said people should expect a night of fun as he is fully loaded with jokes for years. “This show will be different in that I am pushing boundaries and pushing myself to the limit. Gone are the times when we just staged shows for the sake of doing them. This time around there will be a massive improvement in terms of international appeal, crowd pull, and general staging,” he said.
