A NURSE, stationed at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, was yesterday hauled to the maintenance court by his former lover for neglecting their child, who is in Form Three.
Chipo Sibanda told the court that Jonathan Chavise, who is also a nurse, had abandoned his duties as a father.
She was claiming $190 000 in maintenance. Justifying her claim, she said the money was meant to cover the child’s medication, school fees, rent, transport, food and clothing.
“I am responsible for everything that the child needs and he doesn’t help me.
“I can no longer afford it alone, I need his help,” said Sibanda.
In response, Chavise said he was not in a position to meet her demands.
He told the court that they had agreed she was going to take responsibility before she fell pregnant.
“We agreed that she was going to take care of the child alone.
“We verbally agreed before she conceived and she knows it.
“I’m surprised that she is now bringing me here,” he said.
Despite Chavise’s protest, Sibanda stuck to her $190 000 maintenance claims.
However, the presiding magistrate ordered Chavise to pay US$75 and $15 000 effective July 30.
