A National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student, Thubelihle Rosyln Ndlovu, is pushing for a litter-free society through her anti-litter campaign, GreenZimbabwe.
Her goal is for everyone to be well informed about the effects of littering and to instil an anti-litter mindset.
“As an environmental scientist, I have been observing a lot of environmental problems within the City of Bulawayo and council isn’t doing anything to resolve them.
“I then realised that in as much as it is the city council’s job to keep the city clean, we as residents need to take a collective approach to solve our problems.

“My team and I then started a movement called GreenZimbabwe and #EverythingGreen whereby we engage and educate people on matters of the environment,” she said.

She intends to invest money in researching on cheaper and safer sources of energy and how best coal can be made a lower carbon energy source.
Thubelihle is also brainstorming mitigation strategies pertaining to climate change.
“In as much as Zimbabwe is contributing something like one percent to climate change and global warming, it’s not a secret that we are hit hardest by the effects of climate change and global warming.
“As it is, we are a developing country that is food insecure. Imagine what is going to happen if we all sit back and act as if climate change is not real. We will starve to death.
“We need to put our heads together and come up with solutions to the problem at hand.”
