BULAWAYO’S hidden gems are getting their shine thanks to “Artistic Expressions” — a creative and soul-stirring segment on NUST FM 101.1 that’s giving artists a powerful mic to tell their stories.
From musicians and poets to authors and MCs, the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus radio is proving it’s more than just books and brains — it’s a launchpad for untapped talent.
The mastermind behind the mic is Annah Thandeka Maseko, the show’s producer and host, who said the idea came from noticing how many artists lacked proper exposure and platforms to express their inner worlds.
“Many artists I interviewed were barely known. Some are battling depression and needed a safe space to be heard,” said Maseko.

Since its inception, “Artistic Expressions” has become a home for talent like T3rry Tempo, Danny D. Moyo, Vuyi Sax, Psalms Revealed, Kim Makumbe, Lynden Anesu Lungu, and Sox the Poet.
The show digs deep — tackling everything from an artist’s roots and dreams to the struggles behind the spotlight. It’s all about real conversations, raw emotions, and a little rhythm in between.
“We even get our listeners involved through Facebook. It becomes a full-circle moment — from the artist to the fans,” said Maseko.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Finding these rising stars and pinning them down for interviews has been a major challenge.
“Some of them are too underground to find. Others are busy, but once they’re on air — magic happens.”
With her sights set on expanding the show’s reach, Maseko wants to feature even more genres — from Gospel and Maskandi to RnB, Hip hop, and Kwaito.
“Art is powerful, and artists need to be seen and heard. Next time you spot one on the street, tell them how much you appreciate their work. It means more than you think,” she added.
