Nust hosts Ztisu games

THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) are this year’s hosts of the week long Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (Ztisu) games starting tomorrow.

The Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (Zusa), Zimbabwe Teachers’ Colleges Sports Association (Zitcosa) and Technical Educationists Sports Association in Zimbabwe (Tesaz) make up Ztisu and will be take part in the 16th edition of the Games.

Zusa marketing and local organising committee member responsible for marketing Sibonile Madhodha said they had secured all venues for the 16 sporting codes that will be contested.

“Nust and Lupane are co-hosting on behalf of Zusa and all venues have been secured,” said Madhodha.

Athletics will be held at Nust, netball at White City Stadium and football at Barbourfields Stadium.

Khanyisile Sports Centre (formerly BCD) will be home to goalball, while Hartsfield and Raylton will be used for rugby, table tennis and darts.

Golfers will use the Harry Allen greens and cricket will be played at BAC and the Heath Streak Academy and Busters. Local schools Northlea and Milton will be used for handball and volleyball, while Lupane State University will play host to chess.

Goalball is exclusively a sport for athletes with visual impairment. It was invented in 1946 in an effort to rehabilitate blind veterans from World War II and was introduced to the world in 1976 at the Paralympics in Toronto. Goalball competitions are set apart from all other Paralympic events due to the unique atmosphere inside the playing venue.
