A 19-YEAR-OLD man who tried to hang himself near the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo on Wednesday was on Thursday taken back home by his father.Gabriel Rupapa, who is believed to be the son of a senior prison officer in Kwekwe, was spotted hanging from a tree near the road by a truck driver who was buying a mobile phone recharge card shortly after 2PM.

United Bulawayo Hospital officials told Chronicle that Rupapa had been taken by his father just before 1PM.

A senior nurse, who requested anonymity for professional reasons, said Rupapa seemed like a troubled young man. “His father came here just before 1PM and told us he was taking him back to Kwekwe. We didn’t ask either of them anything but from what we observed, he seemed like a troubled young man,” she said.

Witnesses on Wednesday said Langton Rupapa, a senior prisons officer in Kwekwe, answered the mobile phone number that was written on a piece of paper found in Gabriel’s pockets.

Mystery still surrounds Rupapa’s  attempted suicide attempt as his father’s phone was not being answered yesterday.Langton Rupapa’s wife on Wednesday said she did not know of a Gabriel and that her husband received a call but left without giving any reasons.
