PLUMTREE-born house music movement Nxt Stop is taking its sound to Victoria Falls for the first time, with a session scheduled for September 5 as the platform continues its mission of creating opportunities for both up-and-coming and established DJs.
Since its inception, Nxt Stop has provided a platform for local DJs to showcase their talent and reach wider audiences through live performances and recorded sets shared on its digital platforms.
One of the brains behind the initiative, Handy, said the movement has already staged sessions in Plumtree and South Africa, with Victoria Falls now becoming its next destination.
“The concept is simple: We take the movement to different locations, set up a proper house music session, have DJs perform, record the sets and then upload them onto the Nxt Stop YouTube channel.
“What inspired us to take Nxt Stop to Victoria Falls is the city’s identity as the tourism capital of Zimbabwe. We felt it was the perfect location to expose the movement to a different audience while also showcasing Zimbabwean house music and our DJs in one of the country’s biggest tourism destinations,” said Handy.
The Victoria Falls edition will be held at Rock Pool, followed by an after-party at Tshisanyama, giving house music lovers an opportunity to experience the movement in one of Zimbabwe’s leading tourism destinations.
Handy said the Victoria Falls session is part of a broader expansion strategy that will see Nxt Stop continue crossing borders and reaching new audiences.
“We’re also planning another Nxt Stop shoot in South Africa in November. Beyond the sessions, we are growing Nxt Stop into a bigger house music platform. In December, we’ll host a major Nxt Stop event in Bulawayo featuring South African DJs Thukzin and Dankie Boy alongside our local DJs,” he said.
He said the long-term vision is to build a movement that goes beyond individual events by creating opportunities for DJs, documenting the evolution of house music and connecting Zimbabwean talent with audiences beyond the country’s borders.
“Ultimately, Nxt Stop is about creating opportunities for DJs, taking house music to different spaces, documenting the culture and building a movement that connects Zimbabwean and international house music audiences,” said Handy. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
