TALK about a a?coming from behinda? stunt and Gaborone Unitedas on loan to Gilsport Lions footie star Tendai Nyamadzawo (28) comes to mind.
Nyamadzawo banged a record seven-goal haul to earn Gilsport FC a 9-1 win against FC Santos who were relegated on the last day of the season.
It was not just a record but a feat that earned Nyamadzawo the Botswana top flight football leagueas Golden Boot Award.
Going into the match the leading candidate for the Golden Boot were Township Rollersa Segolame Boy and Lemponye Tshireletso of Mochudi Centre Chiefs both sitting on 17 goals while Nyamadzawo was on 12 goals.
a?Teammates and coaches rallied me for the award- scoring seven goals in one match is not a mean achievement. I had targeted five goals going into the match,a? he said adding that he could have scored eight had he not missed a penalty.
Nyamadzawo is no stranger to high scoring, during the 2013/14 season while turning out for Tafic United he banged five goals. That tally had been the leagueas record until the new magic number- seven.
Last yearas Golden Boot winner walked away with P25 000 and if the figure remains the same- Nyamadzawo will smile to the bank in similar fashion.
a?I have scored more than a hat-trick before. I did it while I was still at Tafic United. This does not mean football is not competitive here. Itas all through the grace of God,a? he said.
Even though he ended the season on a high note his team Gilsport Lions was position 10. Sadly, the contract with his parent club Gaborone United expires at the end of this Month.
Therefore, he is club hunting as a free agent.
a?My contract with Gaborone United runs out at the end of this month. I enjoyed my stay at Gilport Lions playing alongside Ozias Zibande (fellow Zimbabwean),a? said the Harare-born striker.
The former Caps United player once had a stint in Mozambique.
Meanwhile, Mochudi Centre Chiefs were crowned the Botswana Premier League champions but the league has had a controversial end after Township Rollers had a massive 10 points deducted after fielding an ineligible player, Ofentse Nato.
Rollers, who are coached by former CAPS United coach Mark Harrison have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). .
