Globe-trotting legendary imbube group Black Umfolosi are set to return to Canada for another tour after their scene-stealing showcases in that country late last year.
The group has made Canada its second home, playing to widespread acclaim in festivals around that country over the past few years. In 2014, after a five-year hiatus from the North American country, the group undertook a 29-stop tour that endeared them with festival goers in that country.
One of Zimbabwea��s greatest cultural exports who have found more joy abroad than at home, the group is set to go on another extensive countrywide tour as they will be performing across Northern, Western, Atlantic and Central during the month of August.
The groupa��s prior visits to the country have also been punctuated by workshops where they have shown the intricacies of traditional cultural dances toA� locals.
The groupa��s August tour is as anticipated as its previous visits if the glowing reviews in anticipation of the groupa��s upcoming visit are anything to go by.
a�?Their music is fresh and surprising, with typical intricate rhythms, unusual harmonies and interspersed clicking, clapping and shouting, which combine to produce a natural funky and rugged aura,a�? wrote the Rough Guide.
The groupa��s culturally illuminating and engaging workshops have also struck a similar chord with participants.
a�?I had something like 40 events in schools during the two weeks of our festival but Black Umfolosi was the most memorable one,a�? said an education co-ordinator with the Warwick & Leamington Festival. .
