YOUNG Tadiwanashe Nyamupfukudza is set to add another chapter to her promising sporting career when she attends the annual United World Wrestling Women in Wrestling Global Forum 2025 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, next month.

Eighteen-year-old Nyamupfukudza, a Lower Six learner at ZRP High School in Harare, is into the motorcycling sport of motocross.

She is a regular feature on the track at Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare where she races with boys.

Nyamupfukudza is always joined on the track by her 10-year-old brother Victor, who competes in the 65cc and 85cc classes.

Now “a jack of all trades”, she recently received an invitation from the Mongolian Wrestling Federation to attend this year’s UWW Women in Wrestling Global Forum which is set to run from October 8 to 10 in the Mongolian city of Ulaanbaatar.

According to the Mongolian Wrestling Federation, the three-day international forum is a key event dedicated to promoting gender equity in leadership, and strengthening human capacity within the sport of wrestling.

The forum aims to advance the presence and influence of women in leadership positions across all areas of wrestling.

It brings together outstanding female and male leaders from around the world to engage in high-impact discussions, interactive workshops, and valuable networking opportunities.

The Women in Wrestling Global Forum includes seminars, workshops and practical sessions for women and men engaged in the sport of wrestling and pursuing the advancement of gender issues and the inclusion of girls/women in the sport of wrestling.

It aims to empower women and men working and promoting women wrestling in their communities worldwide.

This forum intends to provide a learning platform for women and men in wrestling to network, exchange knowledge, ideas to engage and inspire other women through personal projects.

It is a platform conceived as to positively influence thoughts and perceptions, while creating more opportunities for women working in the sport of wrestling who take up leadership positions and actively contribute to narrowing the gender gap.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday, Nyamupfukudza’s father, Simbarashe Nyamupfukudza, said his daughter is “more than excited” to represent Zimbabwe at the forum.

“The Mongolian Wrestling Federation is paying all the bills. She started wrestling this year and she’s the only female student doing Sports Science in her stream (Lower Six) at her school.

“So, when this opportunity to represent Zimbabwe in Mongolia came, she was easily chosen.

“In fact, she was in Morocco last week where she was supposed to participate, unfortunately she had an injury, but this time in Mongolia she’s going for a women’s forum representing Zimbabwe in that discipline,” Simbarashe said.C
