29- year- old Leonard Nyamusoka who has invented his own artefact called “Samanyanga Elephant radio.”
What is more astonishing about this wire art craft is, while it is a beauty to look at, it is also a working radio.
The Epworth-based artist has become the talk of the town with his amazing work.
Nyamusoka is just a grade seven school drop out but his work required complex electronic knowledge to arrange radio components so that they receive radio waves and for grade seven school drop out to come out with the idea is amazing.
“I was born and bred in Guruve and I never set my foot in Secondary School classroom,” said Nyamusoka.
Just a glance at the work, one is bound to conclude that the work of a genius is just an elephant artefact but a closer look will reveal intricate designs which have double use.
The ears of the elephant are made of radio speakers and also work as designers with disco lights which are also designed to be eyes.
“The radio components also work as intestines, one can also use the memory card on the radio” he said.
Nyamusoka said his determination and natural talent was key to completing the amazing project.
“I would go and buy radio components in Harare and many times I would arrange wrongly the components and they would burst, it was frustrating but I told myself I should complete the task and I did it,” said Nyamusoka.
The project took him two months to complete.
The father of one said he now plans to make an even bigger artefact with a tortoise look and also a radio and a cell phone charger.
“I had to start with the elephant because it’s my totem, I will now go to tortoise because it’s my favourite animal,” said Nyamusoka.
Nyamusoka says his dream is to exhibit his work at Harare Agricultural Show.
“I just feel that I am in tune with the right vibrations in the universe when I am working,” he said.
