The Nyanga North Constituency in Manicaland Province, has introduced tele-medicine booths, which will enable patients to access medical services remotely through video consultations with doctors, supported by on-site healthcare workers.

This innovative initiative is in line with the country’s vision of achieving comprehensive universal healthcare and five such facilities are going to be established in the region as the country moves to improve access to quality medical care for all.

The first tele-medicine booth has already been successfully implemented in Nyamaropa, located in Ward 12, Nyanga North Constituency where community members are already reaping the benefits of this transformative service.

This project is being rolled out by tele-medicine specialist and consulting medical practitioner Dr Admore Jokwiro in partnership with Nyanga North Member of the House of Assembly Chido Sanyatwe, NetOne Cellular and VakaAfya Batsi Health.

These booth provides a variety of e-Health services, including diabetes and hypertension management, wellness screenings, and tele-consultations with qualified healthcare professionals.

In an interview, Nyanga North legislator Mrs Sanyatwe, said: “The tele-medicine booth represents a commitment to enhancing healthcare access for our people,” she said.

“It embodies the vision of His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, who has prioritised healthcare and digital literacy across the country.

“The introduction of tele-medicine booths in Nyanga North is not just about convenience; it is also about improving health outcomes.

“The services offered at these booths are designed to address prevalent health issues in the community while promoting preventive care.

“For instance, with diabetes and hypertension being common health concerns, the tele-medicine booth provides regular screenings and monitoring, allowing for early detection and management of these conditions.”

Ward 12 Nyamaropa Councillor, Ms Annah Manimanzi was ecstatic, saying local residents would no longer travel long distance to get medical care.

“Before the booth, we had to travel far to see a doctor, which was not always possible,” said.

“Now, we can get the care we need right here in our community. It’s a game changer for us.”

The first phase of the rollout will see five tele-medicine booths established in strategic locations across Nyanga North.

Each booth will be equipped with the latest technology to facilitate remote consultations and health monitoring.
