THERE was pomp and fanfare at the just-ended Nyanga March and Shoot Competition held at All Arms Battle School at Nyamombe Border Camp last Friday as military officers displayed exceptional warfare exuberance and stamina.
The competition which bounced back after a two-year break owing to competing tasks and financial constraints is a prestigious annual event on the ZNA calendar which is carried out to assess the level of training across the national army spectrum.
The event was graced by the ZNA Commander, Lieutenant-General Phillip Valerio Sibanda, who urged the officers to continue working hard to maintain high standards of training the ZNA has maintained over decades.
“Take note of the lessons you learnt and when we meet I want to see an improved formation. Work hard and improve your ratings, practice makes perfect. This year’s event gave me the opportunity to inspect all the regiments in relation to my training directives,” he said.
Mechanised Infantry Brigade emerged the overall winners of the seven-day competition which ran from August 15 to 21.
For their efforts, they received a trophy and $500, with the Presidential Guard Infantry Brigade pocketing $400 for coming second, while Parachute Regiment went home $200 for being third placed.
This year’s edition was code-named Operation Kuzvipira and saw 410 officers battling out for top honours.
