ONE person died yesterday afternoon along the Harare-Mutare Highway after a haulage truck was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the haulage truck, with Tsvakisai Karongo behind the wheel, encroached onto the opposite lane; leading to a head-on collision with a Honda Fit that was being driven by Micheal Dumbura.
“On April 16, 2025 at around 4pm, at 252km peg, Tsvakisai Karongo (46), of Kuwadzana 3 in Harare was driving a haulage truck from Mutare to Harare. Micheal Dumbura, of 3 Brigade, Mutare was driving a Honda Fit from Harare to Mutare. Karongo encroached into the oncoming lane and had a head-on collision with Dumbura, who died on the spot,” he said.
In another unrelated accident, nine people were seriously injured when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned in Chimanimani.
Five of the victims have been hospitalised.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the driver of the Nissan Caravan failed to negotiate a sharp curve, resulting in the vehicle overturning.
“Tapiwa Majere (28), of Dangamvura, Mutare was driving a Nissan Caravan (AFC 4679) along Wengezi- Chimanimani Road. He had 13 passengers on board, and upon reaching the 90km peg, he failed to negotiate a sharp curve and lost control of vehicle, which veered off the road, overturned and landed on the passenger side.
“Nine passengers were injured and taken to Mutambara Mission Hospital, where four were treated and discharged while five were hospitalised,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
