Tenant murders landlord over ‘missing satchel’

A CHIMANIMANI man – Phineas Mutambadzure (49) – was brutally assaulted by his tenant Learnmore Muyambo over a missing satchel, and died on arrival at hospital.

Manicaland police spokesperson` Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, which happened on April 14, when the accused returned home with alcohol and invited his late landlord and his young brother Luke Mutambadzure (44) for a beer drinking binge.

“Muyambo returned home with alcohol and invited the deceased and his uoung brother to drink together. The trio took the alcohol in the dining room until it was around 1am, after which Luke retired to bed, leaving the two drinking,” he said.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said an altercation arose around 3:3am when Muyambo asked for his satchel, which he claimed was in Mutambadzure’s possession.

“They both went outside arguing, and the argument turned violent. Muyambo took a stick, which he allegedly used to assault Mutambadzure all over the body. Rumbidzai Chikangaisa (33), who is Mutambadzure’s niece, and neighbhour witnessed the assault after she stormed outside to investigate after hearing the noise,” he said.

Chikangaisa then alerted Luke, who found the deceased laying on the ground, while Muyambo claimed to have found the missing satchel in the dining room.

He quickly gathered his belongings and fled the scene.

The victim was later taken to Rusitu Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

 

The matter was reported to Chimanimani police, who attended the scene, and found 13 broken pieces of sticks used to assault the deceased.

The police are appealing for information leading to Muyambo’s arrest.
