MARONDERA-BASED hulk Blessing Nyapimbi announced his entry on the local bodybuilding and fitness scene by winning the Mr Novice contest at Body-Tech Gym on Saturday. Nyapimbi, who pumps iron from Gym Active in Marondera, beat a credible line-up of other first-timers to win his first bodybuilding crown.
The Mr Novice and Ms Novice is a competition only open to athletes who have never entered any other contest before and is used as a stepping stone to their careers.
A total of 13 up-and-coming bodybuilders entered for the senior men’s category and three of them were eliminated during the pre-judging while 10 proceeded to the proper event.
Nyapimbi, despite it being his first time, exhibited a proportional body and a total package. For winning the Mr Novice, Nyapimbi walked away with a hamper and supplements while he is set to receive free subscription to a top gym as he takes over from 2013 champion Garikayi Mujuru, who was part of the crowd.
Paul Matimba came second while Kudzai Makombe was third in the senior men’s division. Godwin Mhaka came fourth with Gideon Tegura was fifth with Tinashe Manzini coming sixth.
In the juniors section, Thomas Rwodzi won the division ahead of Terence Nyoni and Takudzwa Kaisi, who took the bronze medal.
