WITH just two days to go before the National Youth Games start in Mutare, preparations for the Games seems to be shaping up with the organisers confirming that the sporting facilities are now ready for the various competitions.

The Games will run from Saturday 15-23 August with the country’s 10 provinces expected to battle it out in athletics, basketball, boxing, football, handball, netball, tennis and volleyball.

Athletics will be held at Sakubva stadium as well as the official opening and closing ceremonies on August 16 and 23.

Basketball and tennis will be at Mutare Girls high while Mutare Hall also known as Queens Hall will host boxing.

Football is set for Ellis Gladhill School and Sakubva High School. Mutare Teachers College and Mutare Boys High School will host handball.

Netball and Volleyball will be played at Dangare School in Sakubva and Marymount Teachers College respectively.

Sports Commission corporate communications officer, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa said they visited the hosting province last week and all is set for the annual event.

Initially there were concerns with Sakubva hosting athletics as the stadium needed some sprucing up, but yesterday Nheweyembwa said it’s now certain Sakubva will host athletics.
