Gabriel Nyoni went for the money dangled by Harare giants Caps United to lure him from Highlanders FC where his playing and financial future were uncertain.
“Granvia” as he was affectionately known told B-Metro that Caps had a hard to resist offer.
“I really wanted to give my all at Highlanders but a prolonged deadlock on salary made me jump to an enticing offer from Caps United,” he said.
He will do duty for Caps United as probably the only player in Zimbabwe who will wear two hats. One as a player and the other as a marketing professional.
“They offered me a US$20 000 housing stand and secured me a well-paying marketing job in Harare,” he said.
He will also do marketing for Helctro, an electrical engineering and supply company owned by Farai Jere, the majority shareholder and president of the team.
To top it up they offered him more than what Highlanders was paying him.
“They offered me a better salary than the one I used to get at Highlanders,” he added.
Last season he enjoyed a purple patch at Highlanders where his mentor Madinda Ndlovu handed him the vice-captain’s arm band and he duly reciprocated that with a cool six goals.
Many Highlanders faithfuls thought he would continue from where he left.
Having started out with Caps at junior level his return to the green and white is not just an emotional reunion but a business arrangement.
