Obert Dube wraps-up UK tour

Multi-award-winning poet Obert Dube who hails from Lupane in Matabeleland North, is happy and content after successfully wrapping his month-long United Kingdom tour as he staged performances in Leicester, Harlow and Southampton.
The poet, who gained recognition through his ballads with thematic concerns that reveal the importance of African culture – kicked off his tour with a performance at the Black Business Arts and Music Festival (BBAM) on September 28 at Southampton.
The event which was meant to celebrate black history and culture, saw the poet sharing the stage with fellow Zimbabwean artiste Busi Mhlanga and other African creatives.
Another huge gig that Dube managed to perform at was the 18th edition of the Black History Multi-cultural festival which took place on October 5.
During the tour, the poet had a privilege to share the stage with other creatives like Busi, Rory Jackson who is the late Pop King Michael Jackson’s impersonator, Talentos, Efua Sey, Silver Fox, among many others.
Dube said he felt honoured to have been recognised by the organisers of the events and be given the opportunity to perform in front of his fans based in the UK.
He also said that the platform gave him the opportunity to grow his fan base and network with other artistes whom he learnt a lot from.
“I feel honoured to have been chosen to perform in front of the crowds and to share the stage with all the great artistes I met on various shows during my tour. People love African poems here (UK) and they are very welcoming.
“As of now, I do not have any collaborations with these creatives I shared the stage with but performing with them gave me exposure and allowed me to grow my fan base as I performed in front of different people from different ethnicities and races,” said Dube.
Apart from the UK, Dube has performed in different countries including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, Cameron, Germany and England among others.
