Men, women and children thronged the venue to quench their musical thirst during this year’s edition which was also attended by foreign exhibitors and buyers.
Zimbabwe’s “big five” musicians — Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Baba naMai Charamba, Suluman Chimbetu and Mbira DzeNharira — performed to expectation. The musicians kept the crowd on their feet making sure the visitors had a great time sampling the best in Zimbabwean music.
Urban groovers Desmond “Stunner” Chideme and ExQ gave a good account of themselves by putting together a well-choreographed act.
Their presence was felt throughout the performance with their sing-along hits like “Godo”, “Team Hombe”, “Mazirudo” and others.
Dancehall chanter Winky D aka Ninja President proved he is still at the top of his game through his addictive and danceable songs. He unleashed all his chart-topping hits and mesmerised the crowd with his ghetto-inspired chants.
On the gospel front, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave and the Charambas led the crowd in praise and worship. They delighted revellers with their soothing gospel songs.
To wrap up the show were two great acts from Mtukudzi and Macheso, who upped the tempo with their fast-paced beats. Both Mtukudzi and Macheso showed why they are among the best musicians in the country. Sugar Chagonda, ZTA head of communication and corporate affairs, said the show lived up to expectations and was matched by an overwhelming attendance.
“We thank all those who supported us in achieving our goals as a tourism authority. The line-up of artistes provided was the creme de la creme in terms of Zimbabwe’s cultural diversity.
“This shows that things are moving in the positive direction as we had anticipated,” said Chagonda.
