IN line with the Government’s ease of doing business and innovation thrust, the Office of the President and Cabinet has developed an application that enables members of the public to access the President’s presentations, engagements and any other Government programmes as they happen.
The application was developed early this month and is one of the signature exhibits at the OPC’s stand at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
Speaking to Zimpapers news crew, OPC director of Presidential Communications, Ms Betty Dimbi, said the application will be available on Play Store and App Store in the next two weeks.
“At the moment, one can access this application through a QR code or via a link. We want people to easily access anything to do with the OPC,” said Ms Dimbi.
She said besides speeches, the application has been uploaded with policies, video and picture galleries as well as Acts.
They have also uploaded all OPC provincial contacts for easy access by members of the public.
“The application will also be a very good teaching guide for schools,” said Ms Dimbi.
On the overall exhibition for this year, Ms Dimbi said the OPC was working in sync with the ZITF thematic focus but said the OPC went further and created its own sub-theme where they are looking at the establishment, expansion and resuscitation of industries.
She said for people who may know the name OPC but do not know what exactly they do, Ms Dimbi said the division occupies the centre stage in the whole of Government operations.
“We are co-ordinators and we do this because it is our responsibility to give policy guidance to the entire Government machinery. We co-ordinate Government ministries, departments, agencies, civic society organisations and faith based organisations,” said Ms Dimbi.
She said the co-ordination was not one way or dictatorial whereby the OPC tells ministries or agencies what to do.
“We talk to them and we also get feedback, which we act upon,” said Ms Dimbi.
She said they were also running a series of development projects that the Second Republic has embarked on, completed or still running, picking a few like the solar project at Cross Mabale in Hwange District as well as the Chimanimani timber project, Binga fishing rigs and Bikita Lithium mine.
In synchronising with the main ZITF theme of crafting an integrated economic landscape, Ms Dimbi said that cannot happen without talking about the nation’s journey towards Vision 2030.
“Our journey started with TSV 2018, went to National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1)(2021-2025) and now we are entering the sunset of NDS1 and going to NDS2 as we work to attain 0Vision 2030,” she said.
Ms Dimbi said everything that the country is doing, including industrialisation, the destination is Vision 2030.
“We will know that we have attained an upper-middle-income through the economy, infrastructure, health and education, housing, water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and security,” she said.
Ms Dimbi said indicators of an upper-middle-income economy include an employment rate of 80 percent, a reduction of poverty to below 25 percent, 90 percent of households accessing electricity, a stable micro-economic environment with high productivity and a successful engagement and re-engagement.
