Old guard to usher in New Year

household names.
A lot has since changed with more disc jockeys coming on board but that breed of DJs which used to rock on that station is hard to find.

Some have gone far afield, others went down under but a few remained and for this reason, a reunion for all the old skool DJs is set for December 31, at Belgravia Sports Club.

Dubbed “The Old Skool Reunion” this got to be the biggest reunion featuring well known powerhouse —  Huggies Entertainment — with guests Tendai “The Sweet Thang” Chakanyuka, Kelvin “Soul Supreme” Sifelani, Webster “Webber” Brandy and Candy.

These old skool DJs have stood the test of time and wowed audiences in and outside Harare.
As the countdown to the New Year starts, Huggies Entertainment fronted by the legendary Kudzi “Mr Kool” Marudza, Witness “Chuman” Matema and Ronald “D-Train” Chiwanza, have promised a delightful year-ender.

Mr Kool, who had the pleasure of working with the magical Josh Makawa in the old days, has plenty up his sleeve and each gig sounds different.

His voice and selection of music is simply uninhibited. He knows when to play what and how to interact with the crowd. So good on the decks is Mr Kool that he effortlessly delivers the music to the masses on any dance floors.

Ably supported by the vibrant Chuman, Mr Kool is an all-rounder when it comes to music of the old. Those who still remember the good old days cannot help but reminisce on the soothing sound of the old.

Chuman, who enjoys steady slamming on the decks,  has risen through the ranks and he is one of the DJs who gets into the groove with music lovers.

He is endowed with lots of exciting music such that his playlist has something for everyone.
DJ Webber is no pushover.

Since he joined Huggies Entertainment, he has been the most valuable player of old skool music. He likes party hits and club bangers which did some rounds from the early to late 1990s. It would be gem after gem with Candy, who has been with Huggies Entertainment since day one. Candy is in a class of his own and he appeals to the women who love old skool.

The Sweet Thang, who is the only female DJ in the line-up, has worked with some of the finest radio presenters of the old. Her morning programme was popular among her peers.

Obviously, the women will not be starved of their favourite hits since she will be holding it down for the ladies. Her playlist will be composed of the seductive tunes and some uptempo tracks.

Perhaps The Soul Supreme or simply Kedza, will be the cherry on top. You got to give it to him, Kedza loves R&B and soul music to bits. If you are a fan you got to join him as he ushers in 2013.

According to Chuman, the producer of the show, there should be not rain fears at the venue.
“Music lovers are invited to party with us at this gathering where we are featuring the best DJs in old skool. There is going to be two big tents and beer will be sold at ‘pump price’ so make sure you don’t miss the action,” he said.

The “Old Skool Reunion” is proudly sponsored by Pentagon Freight Services, Goldtech Electronics, Power FM, ZimCafe, Colcom and Afdis.
