ONE of the country’s top amateur golf tournaments, the Old Mutual Manicaland Amateur golf tournament, is expected to attract more than 120 golfers from across the country when the tournament tees off at Hillside Golf Club on Saturday. Formerly the RM Insurance Manicaland Amateur tournament, annual the Old Mutual Manicaland Amateur contest has been around for about two decades now.
In fact, the Manicaland Amateur is ranked among the top amateur tournaments on a list of domestic amateur competitions that also includes contests such as the Zim Amateur, Matebeleland Amateur, Harare Amateur, Midlands Amateur Masvingo Amateur.
Manicaland Golf Union vice president Martin Chikwanha confirmed that the tournament is expected to attract about 120 players from across the country.
Chikwanha also confirmed that some top amateur golfers will also be out on the course during this years’ edition of the competition.
“We are going to have the Old Mutual Manicaland Amateur golf tournament on Saturday (tomorrow) and Sunday.
“The two day competition will run until Sunday.
“We are expecting about 120 golfers from different parts of the country.
“We are also hoping to have top amateur golfers such as Robson Chinhoyi, who was at the President’s Cup.
“We are obviously grateful to our sponsors for having partnered the game of golf all the way, through difficult times. As a Union, we are also happy that the tournament has kept its eminence intact,” said Chikwanha.
