Old Nic Mine, a gold mining company situated in Killarney, Bulawayo, has confirmed the death of two employees after a shaft collapse incident on Wednesday night.
The mine said a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident is underway.
The relatives of the two deceased workers have been notified, said the company.
“Old Nic Mine regrets to confirm that an underground incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. and midnight last night. The incident involved two staff members who lost their lives in the fall of ground incident.
“Emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and the relevant authorities and the employee’s next of kin were informed in line with established protocols,” said the company in a statement.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased.
“A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway, and Old Nic Mine remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of all employees,”
