A 24-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to 26 months in prison for assaulting a complainant with a brick following a misunderstanding.
Michael Mureri of Pumula Old was convicted of assault by Western Commonage regional magistrate Mr Pasipanodya Maturure.
He was initially sentenced to 32 months in prison, of which six months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period. The remaining 26 months are effective.
At the commencement of the trial, the accused person was charged with attempted murder. However, he was found not guilty and acquitted of that charge, but was convicted of assault.
Prosecutor, Ms Christina Manyika told the court that the accused person and complainant are not related.
She said that on April 18, 2026, at around 11 PM at Pumula Old Shops, the accused person had a misunderstanding with Ian Zulu (27).
The court heard that following the altercation, the accused person struck Zulu once on the head with a brick.
The complainant was referred to hospital for medical attention and the accused person was arrested, said Ms Manyika.
