Ole wants Pogba to stay

MANCHESTER. — Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still hopeful that Paul Pogba will be part of his Manchester United squad next season despite rumours the midfielder has rejected a new contract at the English Premiership football club.

Solskjaer has played down talks Pogba is set to leave Manchester United after the Frenchman snubbed a new contract to remain at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires next summer when he can leave Old Trafford on a free transfer and recent reports claimed he had snubbed an extension that would have made him the highest player at the club on £350 000-a-week.

United do not want to risk losing record-signing Pogba for nothing for a second time — with the 28-year-old having joined Juventus on a Bosman as a teenager — and there are suggestions he could move to PSG in a cut-price £50million deal.

United want at least £65million, though, and will dig their heels in to ensure they get this amount.

Solskjaer was asked for an update on the situation and claimed talks between the club and player are still ongoing.

Solskjaer said: “The talks are ongoing between Paul’s representatives and the club’s representatives.

“All that I’ve ever heard from Paul is that he is looking forward to the start of the season.

“There’s always speculation about Paul. As for the talks between the club and Paul’s representatives, I’ve not got every detail. “There are always clubs interested in him. We’ve seen Paul at his best – and Paul knows what we feel about it.

“I’ve enjoyed my time working with him and hopefully we can work together. It’s all speculation again. Let’s see what happens.”

Solskjaer — who oversaw a 4-2 defeat to QPR in a pre-season friendly on Saturday — also refused to confirm or deny that Pogba is edging towards a departure, claiming he is not part of the contract talks. — Metro.
