A one-day-old bouncing baby boy was last week dumped in Rusape.
The baby who was wrapped in a blanket placed in plastic bag was dumped in Lesapi Avenue.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said the baby was now in the custody of Rusape General Hospital while efforts are being made to locate its mother.
“On October 24, Martin Boka (63) of Lesapi Avenue heard a baby crying from his backyard. He went on to investigate and discovered a big white plastic bag on the ground, but did not open it. He alerted ZRP Rusape Central who attended the scene and discovered a day-old-baby boy wrapped in a blanket.
“The baby was alive and was taken to the hospital’s children’s ward. Investigations to locate the child’s mother are underway, and we appeal to the public for information leading to the location of this woman.
“We want to warn the public that it is an offence to expose an infant,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
