Tanaka Mahanya
AS names go, it’s a classic and appears to have been tailor-made for him.
After all, he is now providing some sort of medicine for the community he is taking care of.
Meet Mr Medicine Gwara of Bindura!
He has sacrificed his time, and resources, to support underprivileged members of his community, including a number of orphans.
In an interview with H-Metro, Gwara said he was inspired by a spirit to help the underprivileged people in his community to realise their dreams.
A lot of those who are receiving help are in Ward 14, Musana Village, Bindura.
The programme has been running since 2003.
“When I started, I’d identified 10 orphans at Muchapondwa Primary School where I did my primary schooling.
“I searched for those who attained good results and paid school fees for them.
“As word spread that I was helping orphans, the numbers grew.
“A 10-year-old girl, Anotidaishe Chimutsati, cannot walk, talk or move.”
He added:
“There was a time when I could buy wheelchairs and give to the needy, but now I cannot because I am catering for 175 people, hence my call for help.
“I will be most grateful if people come to my rescue in order to lessen her suffering and assist.
“I work with seven widows who help keep records and do regular checks on the children.”
