Ras Jabu, real name Trevor Hall, saluted local musicians and the corporate partners who made the event possible saying the commemorations lived up to expectations.
“Greetings, greetings Jah Rastafarian, Jah continue to bless us year after year the same way he keeps our hopes of meeting a new Bob Marley.
“I saw Rastafarians from different walks of life coming in their numbers to remember the life of a great reggae music icon. Marley was not just a mere music legend, but he also fought for black empowerment through his music that still lives on today.
“If we can account this man’s history very well, clearly he had Africa and the whole world at his heart and he inspired Africans through his music,” said Ras Jabu.
The much hyped show went according to expectations and several reggae music lovers thronged the Harare Gardens cladding in Rastafarian outfits. Ras Jabu said Zimbabweans have so much respect and love for one another just like the Jamaicans.
“We’re entering into this time of elections so as Rastafarians mi seh we want unity and oneness to maintain peace and harmony to cast one vote.
African freedom came a very long way from black suffering and we were blessed with individuals who took a swipe on our colonial masters to say, Africa unite,” he said. Ras Jabu was full of praise for local artistes who put up a polished performance.
Transit Crew, Mannex and Mo Familee, Junior Bantan, King Kodza, I-Wata, Sista Kessia, Reggae Revealers,
Man Soul Jah were among the artistes on the bill.
DJs from Judgment Yard took revellers down memory down lane when they churned out some of the late Jamaican icon’s world anthems from “No Woman No Cry”, “Exodus”, “I Shot the Sheriff”, “Could You be Loved” to the popular “One Love”.
