HIGHLANDERS have been hit by fresh dressing room tensions following reports that striker Isaac Ngoma could be refusing to play over a pay dispute. The Zambian forward was a notable absentee when Bosso were held to a frustrating goalless draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars last weekend, raising questions among fans.
After the match, coach Benjani Mwaruwari dismissed concerns and suggested the absence was due to personal reasons.
“He is attending to a personal issue. We have tried to talk to him and we hope the situation will be resolved soon,” said Benjani.
However, sources close to the situation claim that the issue may be linked to money.
“The player wants more money. He argues what he is presently getting is not enough to sustain him and his family,” a source revealed.
The developments have left Highlanders supporters uncertain about whether Ngoma will be available for Saturday’s clash against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium.
The situation comes at a difficult time for the Bulawayo giants. Highlanders have struggled to turn draws into wins this season, dropping valuable points in matches they were expected to win. Although they have only lost once in the league, frustration is growing among fans over the team’s inability to score goals and secure victories.
Ngoma’s possible absence would add further pressure to an attack that is already finding it difficult to convert chances.
Meanwhile, Manica Diamonds will be looking to take advantage of Highlanders’ struggles. The Mutare-based side has endured a difficult start to the season and is battling to move away from the relegation zone.
Their coach, Patrick Mandizha, says his team is ready for the challenge and will not be intimidated by Highlanders.
“We respect them, but that does not mean we fear them,” declared Mandizha.
He added that returning to Sakubva Stadium could give his side a much-needed boost.
“Returning to Sakubva has boosted the confidence of the team,” he said.
Saturday’s match is shaping up to be a crucial encounter for both sides. For Highlanders, it is an opportunity to get back to winning ways and keep pace with the top teams. For Manica Diamonds, it is a chance to revive their season and move away from danger.
However, the big question remains whether Ngoma will be available — and how his situation will affect Highlanders as they head into a must-win match.
