One-night stand haunts man

A Mutasa man got more than what he had bargained for when he hooked up with a sex worker while his wife was on her death bed.

The woman, Maria Pega, is now seeking the eviction of Gibson Mutimuamba’s family from their home.

The Weekender understands that Pega moved into Mutimuamba’s house following their night of passion before allegedly tricking him into marrying her.

Narrating his ordeal, a distressed Mutimuamba said the former sex worker, Pega, is trying to kick out his first wife, Ruramai Bengura and her children as she declares that she is the rightful owner of the property.

Pega has since applied for an eviction order against Bengura and her children at Mutasa Magistrates’ Court.

The order was granted in Pega’s favour with Bengura and Mutimuamba in default.

“I failed to attend the court hearing and the eviction order was granted in Bengura’s favour. She lied to the court that my wife is a jealousy ex-wife who is failing to stomach her divorce,” said Mutimuamba.

He said he regrets engaging Pega for a one-night stand in 2021, adding that although he paid Pega US$5 for her sexual services back then, she is now a thorn in his flesh.

Mutimuamba works in Kwekwe and said he is afraid to leave his wife and children behind as Pega might evict them in his absence.

All this was revealed when the feuding parties appeared before Chief Mutasa’s court recently.

Mutimuamba was praying for Pega’s eviction from his home.

“In July 2021, my wife (Bengura) was in Masvingo as she was not feeling well. I was sex-starved and hired the services of Pega.

“She charged me US$5 for a one-night stand. We did not agree on a long lasting relationship. We slept together and the following day, I returned to Kwekwe where I am based,” he said.

Mutimuamba said two months later, Pega sent him a message informing him that she was pregnant.

“I did not dispute her claims. I told her that I would make a decision if her delivery days tallied with the day we had been intimate. She later delivered her child months later and eloped to my homestead.

“Since then, she has been staying at my homestead. There is bad blood between us and I have never been intimate with her again. I never paid her lobola and I have no intentions to do so,” he said.

“She claims that we have been married for two years. These are all lies because we only had a one-night stand. I beg this court to assist me as she has ruined my marriage. I regret being intimate with this woman,” he said.

Pega confirmed that when they first met, they had a one-night stand and she was paid US$5 for her services.

“I later eloped to him. When I arrived at his homestead, there were only two huts. He later built a five-roomed house while I was staying there. He told me that was our house, so why should he kick me out now and take his wife back?

“He is shunning me because of the circumstances of our first encounter. His wife was in Masvingo because there was no love between them, but when she heard that I had moved in, she bounced back. She is the trouble causer,” said Pega.

Chief Mutasa cited provisions of the new Marriage Act and advised Mutimuamba that if he wants to part ways with Pega, he has to give a divorce token to his in-laws since Pega is now considered his civil partner at law.

“The new Marriage Act states that if you stay with a woman for more than three months, she becomes your civil partner. The woman says you stayed together for more than two years, so at law, she is your partner.

“You need to humble yourself, approach your in-laws and check if they can accept your divorce token without you having to pay the bride price first,” said Chief Mutasa.

The matter was adjourned to a later date.
