Run, don’t walk to Eastgate. And, when you leave, you’ll believe you’ve lost considerable weight and left your worries behind. But, top movie stars using gutter language and getting an age 16 rating? We are in the American West in the mid-1800s. At least that is where we are physically; but certainly not language wise. Since Hollywood is in California, on the west coast of America, it is often that Americans in considering their film industry use the colloquial expression, that: “all the loose marbles have rolled down to California.”
Surprisingly, for a film which has cast all restraint aside, an earnest effort is made to tell “the Indians’ side of the story.” There can be no doubt that my fellow-Americans are very sensitive and can be humbled when reminded of “how the West was won.”
The film is highly recommended for the manner in which we are shown how rural film almost 200 years ago amused.
And we learn that in the matter of race relations and the plight of newcomers, racial and nationality prejudices are nothing new.
Falling in love with a girl who is known only through long distance correspondence leads to disaster when the two hopefuls come face to face.
A lengthy scene depicting the long distance trains of that period will give the viewer a clear understanding of the high rate of fatalities for those who travelled on them.
To date, films that have been using strong, gutter language have restricted its use to the actors. Now and despite that age rating – the foul speech emanates from the ladies.
A simple country fair is shown with all the dangers which the men, women and children were exposed to and for which they had paid admission. We learn that living in the early 1840s was considered quite a feat.
