One-on-one with music promoter ‘Lungstar’

Saturday Leisure caught up with Dube who is a co-director of Kasi Events Management and he had a lot to share on how he got into music promotion.
“I developed a passion for music promotion in 2009.
“This passion forced me to join other promoters who were promoting different artistes and musical gigs in Bulawayo,” he said.

Dube said the exposure and experience that he got from different promoters later pushed him to collaborate with Collen Ndlovu in forming Kasi Events Management in 2010.
“It was difficult for me to start my own music promoting company without any experience so I decided to work with different players in 2009.
“In 2010, we decided with my partner to register our company as we felt we had enough experience to run our own company,” he said.

Dube said before they got into the industry, they realised that Bulawayo revellers were being starved of house music live shows.
This saw Kasi Events Management being more into house music, which is popular in Bulawayo.
“We are more into kwaito music as it is in demand in Bulawayo.

“In 2011, we managed to bring big house musicians who include BigNuz, DJ Cndo, Fisherman and many others,” he said.
Dube said in 2011, Kasi Events Management got overwhelming support from Bulawayo even though it was a new kid on the block.

“We were impressed with the response we got from Bulawayo in 2011 and this has encouraged us to come up with an even better calendar for 2012,” he said.
Dube said this year they had a policy which was set to promote up-and-coming DJs from Zimbabwe.
These DJs are going to have an opportunity to share the stage with foreign artistes.

“We are going to pick local artistes that we are going to promote and this will be our policy for this year.
“This is definitely going to give them a platform for exposure and growth,” he said.

Dube said some of the South African artistes who would be coming to Zimbabwe in 2012 include Tira, Oskido, Professor, Big Nuz, DJ Kent, DJ Cleo and Zahara.
“We are going to bring the best house artistes to Zimbabwe in 2012.
“From all these artistes I have mentioned, none of them is going to perform for less than two hours,” he said.
