The third Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour tournament has a strong field that includes several Wingate players like Laiford Yadyo who won the last professional event at Chapman.
The tournament comes against a backdrop of discontent in the game amid revelations that the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association are on the verge of forming their own tour.
Most of the local professionals are unhappy over the lack of game time on the Zambezi Tour.
The association, which boasts of up to 50-members, resolved during their annual meeting that they will re-establish the ZPGA Tour.
ZPGA Tour spokesperson and board member, Richard Chitakatira, said they were at an advanced stage, in terms of forming a tour, and was hopeful they will be backed by a number of sponsors.
“We discussed several issues during our annual meeting with the major one being that of re-establishing the ZPGA Tour,” Chitakatira said.
“We held our AGM and it went on well with most of our members attending. The professionals who are not happy with lack of game time have resolved to form a new tour.
“The ZPGA members are not having game time, the Zambezi Tour did not deliver as to our expectations and we are not happy.
“Some professional golfers have since resorted to going back to work.”
The players have so far this season participated in the Pre-Open Classic and the Chairman’s Trophy.
Others took part in the Zimbabwe Open.
