Governor Maluleke said the food situation in Masvingo was precarious as thousands of families were grappling with severe food shortages.
“The food situation in Masvingo is very dire and there are thousands of people, especially in remote rural areas who are in urgent need of food relief. They are failing to get grain and we urge GMB to open up more satellite depots,” he said.
Governor Maluleke said the number of people in need of food relief would continue to grow as the year-end nears.
“There is need to expand the Grain Loan Scheme so that all the families who do not have food can benefit from the programme. Many of our people in remote rural areas do not have reliable supplies of grain and that is a challenge. The opening up of more satellite depots would bring grain to many people.”
