OPERATION Chenesa Harare is just a dummy to fool the capital’s residents.
That’s what the Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) national chairperson, Shepherd Chikomba, feels.
He believes it’s an attempt by the Council to extort residents.
The campaign, which was launched by Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, started two weeks ago.
It is yet to bear any fruit.
In Glen View, trash continues to accumulate everywhere, while in the Central Business District, there have only been clean-ups at bus termini.
Chikomba said the campaign will not succeed.
“I do not think that the campaign will bear fruit.
“They should not have even embarked on this campaign because it is the Council’s daily duty to clean the city.
“What will happen after the campaign is over?
“Refuse bins are not being collected, Council workers do not have the necessary equipment and this shows that the campaign is a waste of time and money.”
He added: “They should commit to collecting refuse, at least, once a week rather than launch such useless campaigns.
“The campaign is just a way to play with residents’ minds.
“We encourage them to take residents seriously because they are paying for service delivery.
“Why is the campaign for a short period of time when mountains of garbage are piling everywhere around the city?”
