Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe says Government and the Harare City Council will not stop at anything in their attempt to achieve set targets of Operation Chenesa Harare.
Minister Garwe indicated that the operation will continue as long as people continue to be disorderly and lawless.
He said the Harare City Council will not be overwhelmed by the presence of illegal vendors.
“The Harare City Council’s municipal police are not going to be overwhelmed and the timeline of this operation is as long as people continue to be disorderly and lawless,” said Minister Garwe.
Despite the on-going enforcement, the return of vendors to some of the city’s busiest streets have resolved the commitment to sustain the clean-up and decongestion campaign.
The Government and council have maintained that informal traders must operate from designated areas rather than obstructing pavements and public spaces.
The operation is expected to continue as authorities seek to reclaim Harare’s streets and restore the capital’s status as the Sunshine City.
