Police have engaged the SPCA and local authorities to conduct an operation targeting stray dogs and their owners.
This comes after stray dogs, predominantly pit bulls and boerboels, have killed several people across the country, while others have been injured.
Some of the owners have since been arrested and are appearing in court.
According to the law, dog owners should ensure that their dogs do not roam the streets unsupervised.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed these developments.
“The ZRP reminds dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash and to ensure that they do not roam the streets unsupervised, in accordance with the country’s laws, specifically the Harare Dog Licensing and Control By-Law of 1993, enacted under Statutory Instrument 19 of 1993. Dog owners should prioritise the safety of the public.
“The ZRP is now engaging the SPCA and local authorities for an operation targeting stray dogs and their owners,” he said.
