He could not reveal if the officers were operating in plain clothes.
Council announced the deployment of officers in an operation code named Nguva Yakwana on Tuesday, weeks after the initial crackdown on touts, which saw more than 300 of them arrested.
Harare residents expressed mixed feelings over the council’s deployment of the officers. Since the initial crackdown on touts, city authorities have been battling to find ways of taking over the ranks. This had caused fears that they were creating a vacuum that could be exploited by the touts.
“We are glad that the confusion of recent days seems to have subsided,” Mr Tariro Chagoda from Glen View said.
