Over 120 expected for ATA golf tourney in Vic Falls

This will be a warm up event in preparation for the UNWTO General Assembly.

United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe Charles Ray will be the guest player in a field that has attracted players from South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, and the United States, among other countries.

The managing director of Fivebulls Travel Tours and Safaris, who is also the president of Inbound Tour Operators of Zimbabwe Association (ITOZA) and organiser of the golf tourney, Tich Mudzonga, said they expected the tournament to be a success both on the greens and business aspect.

“We have received entrants from abroad including US, Europe, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, among other countries. The guest player will be the US Ambassador, Charles Ray. All participants are of high business worth. The event is meant to create an enabling platform to network with international buyers and to promote tourism joint ventures,” he said.

Locally, the tournament will see players coming from the tourism and suppliers industry among them airlines, tour operators, bankers, motor vehicle suppliers, telecommunications industry representatives, hoteliers, safari operators, food and beverage suppliers, and other related industries.

Zimbabwe is playing host to the 37th edition of the Africa Travel Association (ATA) Congress which kicked off yesterday and ends on Tuesday at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls.

Founded in 1975, ATA’s mission is to promote travel, tourism and transport to and within Africa, and to strengthen intra-Africa partnerships.

Zimbabwe last hosted the ATA Congress in 1988.

This conference will serve as a precursor to the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly the country will co-host with Zambia in 2013.
