At least 200 personnel from the Ministry of Defence and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces from the southern region are undergoing a five-day training course on International Public Sector Accounting Standards at Jason Ziyapapa Moyo Air Force Base in Chegutu.
The second phase of the training, facilitated by officials from the Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Ministry, ends this Friday and is being attended by officers and staff from the ministry and ZDF, drawn from bases in Bulawayo, Midlands and Masvingo provinces, as well as the host province of Mashonaland West.
The first phase, which covered the northern region, was held in Mutare.
Chief of Staff Support Services, Air Vice Marshal Selebale Masera, officiated at the training yesterday, where he said urgent attention was needed to improve compliance in relation to the valuation of assets and inventories.
“It is for this reason that this training has been organised, targeting mainly our logistics, administration and equipment management personnel, who are at the centre of maintaining records, controlling inventories and managing property, plant and equipment,” he said.
By equipping the personnel with the knowledge and skills, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and the Ministry of Defence seek to lay a foundation for stronger financial management, transparency, and accountability in line with both national and international reporting standards.
Air Vice Marshal Masera said under IPSAS, the ZDF will identify, value and report on all its assets, including specialised non-cash-generating military assets like equipment and barracks.
