OVER 300 000 new Heritage Based Curriculum textbooks for primary and secondary schools were launched in Harare today, whilst another 2, 8 million are in production, marking a significant step in the implementation of Zimbabwe’s culturally rooted education framework.
Local publisher, Nest Hub Publishers launched the books, at a ceremony attended by officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the Zimbabwe Republic Police Anti-Piracy Department.
Speaking at the unveiling, Nest Hub Publishers chief executive, Mr Tapiwa Mbidzo underscored the imperative for schools to fully embrace the new curriculum.
“It is more than just a set of subjects; it is a philosophy that seeks to empower our children with a knowledge that is truly relevant, historically informed and globally competitive.”
He emphasised the curriculum’s goal of nurturing national pride, instilling values, and equipping learners with skills to navigate the complexities of the modern world.
This substantial rollout aims to ensure broad access to the essential resources for the Heritage Based Curriculum, which the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education introduced to align the nation’s education system with its rich heritage and foster a generation of innovative, globally competitive citizens.
Mr Mbidzo highlighted the extensive research and dedication invested in crafting the textbooks, asserting their superior quality and alignment with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s requirements.
“This is not merely the release of new books; it is the culmination of extensive research, tireless dedication, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education rooted in our unique identity and values,” Mr Mbidzo said.
He stated that whilst 300,000 copies were available after they were pre-ordered schools, another 2, 8 million copies are currently in production.
To curb piracy, Mr Mbidzo revealed that the books have advanced security features that include a UV-light visible logo, an embossed logo on the front cover, an embossed “Foundation Series” title, and a transparent “Foundation Series” print at the back of the book.
He said the ZRP Anti-Piracy Department will enforce the law to ensure intellectual property protection.
