Over 40 drug bases disbanded in Shurugwi

At least 44 drug ‘bases’ have been busted by the police in the Midlands while 587 individuals have been arrested over drug and

substance abuse since January this year.

Speaking during an anti-drug campaign that was held in Shurugwi recently, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution

Minister Owen Ncube said an average of 115 drug and substance abuse cases are recorded every month in the district.

Minister Ncube said 701 drug and substance abuse users from the province have undergone rehabilitation at Ingutsheni and

Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospitals.

Speaking at the same event that was also attended by various Government departments, Officer Commanding Midlands

Province, Commissioner Partson Nyabadza said the police have intensified their operations to flush out drug and substance

abusers in the province.
