Over 90 feared dead after boat capsizes on Lake Kariba – Zimbabwe Republic Police

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says more than 90 people are feared dead after a Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) boat carrying 90 passengers and five crew members capsized on Lake Kariba.

The police said rescue efforts were underway, with further details expected as the operation progresses. 

In a statement posted on its social media platforms, the ZRP said the boat had 90 people and five crew members on board when it capsized.

“The ZRP reports that a DDF boat with 90 people and five crew members has capsized in Lake Kariba. Rescue efforts are currently underway with more details on the situation to be released in due course,” the police said.

The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
