“The pre-qualification tender for prospective private players closes on the 27th of June 2013. So far the response in collecting tender documents has been very impressive,” he said.

Zesa Holdings has installed 183 000 prepaid meters countrywide since August last year and now wants private players to help the power utility to meet its one year target of installing 600 000 meters. Private players who will win the bids will deal directly with customers under the facilitation of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).

Since last year, Zesa has been rolling out pre-paid meters in a bid to promote energy saving and ensure guaranteed cash inflows as consumers pay in advance.
