NORTON Town Council chairperson Councillor Action Mataruse has secured 40 refuse bins from Pacific Breeze under the firm’s corporate social responsibility initiative to help keep the town clean.
Speaking to Herald Online, Clr Mataruse said the bins had been placed at business centres that generated large volumes of waste.
He said the initiative would complement the council’s efforts to improve waste management and maintain cleanliness across the town.
“The bins are installed in sets of four to allow residents to separate different types of waste, including bottles, paper and food waste,” he said.
“I approached Pacific Breeze for support under its corporate social responsibility programme, and the company donated 40 bins to the Norton community.
“Our aim is to ensure that residents have convenient places to dispose of their waste and help keep our town clean.”
Cllr Mataruse said placing bins at busy business centres would encourage proper waste disposal.
“Residents no longer have to walk long distances to find a bin,” he said.
He urged residents to use the bins rather than litter public spaces, emphasising that keeping Norton clean required everyone’s cooperation.
“We want Norton to be the best town, and achieving that goal depends, in part, on how clean we keep our surroundings,” he said.
“I thank Pacific Breeze and our waste management department for working together to provide these bins. Through our combined efforts, we can keep our town clean.”.
Cllr Mataruse pledged to ensure that the bins are emptied on time and that the collected waste is transported to the dumpsite.
“I also thank our residents and urge them to continue putting their waste in the bins,” Cllr Mataruse said.
“We do not want heaps of uncollected garbage. The bins must be emptied regularly to prevent waste from accumulating.”
