A 79-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s Nketa 9 suburb allegedly turned his 13 year-old granddaughter into a sex slave, sleeping with her from when she was nine-years-old.
The court heard the man (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor) virtually turned the child into his personal prostitute, paying her $5 every time he abused her.

The man was not asked to plead when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sheunesu Matova facing rape charges.
He was remanded in custody to September 26 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza said the accused had sexual intercourse with his granddaughter without her consent.

“He practically turned his 13-year-old granddaughter into his own prostitute. He had sexual intercourse several times with her and gave her money,” he said.

The court heard that on an unknown date in 2009 the child was left in her grandfather’s care as her mother went to work in South Africa.

At around 8PM the two went to sleep in the same room, on different beds.

The old man allegedly sneaked into the girl’s bed, covered her mouth with his hand, removed her panties and raped her.

From that date to December 2013, the man raped the child and gave her $5 after every ordeal for her not to tell anyone.

The old man denied having sexual intercourse with his granddaughter.

“I did not have sexual intercourse with her. The only time I remember there was a blanket in between us. I did not sleep with her,” he said.
