A NEW modelling contest, Mr and Miss Supranational Zimbabwe, aims to empower young people with leadership skills, its founders have said.
Farai Zembeni, the president of the pageant, said they were also set to equip young people with entrepreneurship skills.
He said this at the pageant’s inaugural event recently held in the capital.
Harare-based model, Tatenda Mayoyo, 24, was crowned the queen while 29 year-old Tatenda Njanike was voted the king.
The pageant, which took place in the capital, ran under the theme, “Purpose, Empower, Impact”.
“It’s a pageant that comes after Miss World and Miss Universe, making it the third biggest pageant.
“The Supranational Zimbabwe pageant aims to empower young people.
“We held the function last week at Marina Convention Centre at Long Cheng Plaza.
“Seventeen girls participated and we also had five males,” he said.
He added:
“They were judged from a boot camp, which was a week long, and on stage they were judged based on their modelling skills and ability to answer questions.
“We were looking for a winner, who is a total package, in terms of representation, someone with a million little stories, articulation, among other things.”
The panel of judges included modelling gurus and the pageant organisers.
