Lawrence Mpofu (20) and Trymore Mpofu (19), of Junior Moyo’s homestead under Chief Hobodo’s area attacked Mr Clement Mpofu (38) with bricks and broke a windowpane at his homestead, which is in the same area.
The two were convicted on their own plea of guilty to assaulting Mr Mpofu and damaging his property when they appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Gibson Mandaza.
They were each sentenced to 12 months imprisonment of which two months were suspended for five years on condition that they do not within that period commit an offence of the same nature.
The State’s case, as presented by the prosecutor, Mr Paul Mpofu is that on 25 December at about 9pm, Mr Mpofu approached the convicted persons at Junior Makholwa’s cocktail bar at Crossroads business centre.
He ordered them to stop talking to his wife, as he had previously seen them talking to her. This did not go down well with the two men, who threatened to beat up Mr Mpofu and he ran away.
At about 12 midnight, Mr Mpofu boarded a vehicle going home after the bar had closed. The duo boarded the same vehicle and threatened Mr Mpofu along the way.
Upon arrival at Mr Mpofu’s homestead, the duo alighted and pulled Mr Mpofu out of the vehicle. They stabbed him with a knife on the right arm and assaulted him with stones and bricks.
Mr Mpofu ran towards his bedroom hut, but the duo pursued him throwing bricks and stones at him and one brick hit a windowpane.
Mr Mpofu fell to the ground as a result of the attack and sustained serious injuries all over his body. He was taken to Brunapeg Hospital for treatment.
The incident was reported leading to the arrest of the duo.
