Pamuzinda Highway Xscape, one of Harare’s premier outdoor joints, will on August 30 explode into a revelling mood when it hosts a farewell gig for Suluman Chimbetu.Suluman and the Orchestra Dendera Kings will tour South Africa next month, where they are expected to hold shows in Johannesburg and Pretoria on September 6 and 7.
The show, organised by the Red Rose Entertainment, will also feature Extra Kwazvose, Peter Moyo and the Dembo Brothers.
Suluman, who is no doubt a big player in the dendera genre, is expected to give a good account of himself when he meets his local fans, before going to South Africa for his two weekend shows.
Fans expected to throng the venue will surely enjoy some of his hit songs such as “Sean Timba”, “Njiva” and “Kwedu” among others.
A high-octane performance is also expected from new kids on the block Extra Kwazvose who are determined to make their mark in the arts sector, judging by the concerted efforts they have been doing through holding live shows across Zimbabwe.
“It is also a chance for the people of Dzivarasekwa and Kuwadzana to witness the live performance of this new crew as they are doing so well with their album ‘Ndizvo Zviripo’ as it has made waves in the industry and people are really enjoying their music,” said Barbara Chikosi, who was the brains behind the “Rebels” maiden show at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on July 12.
The gig will also have in tow Peter Moyo who is expected to churn out a number of hits from his late father Tongai Moyo and from his own album “Mushonga Mukuru” which has been received well by his fans.
Fans should also look forward to Barura Express fronted by Morgan and Tendai Dembo.
It, however, appears that the Dembo Brothers are still struggling to fit in their father’s shoes, because their work is not yet up to scratch. Although they have been holding live shows in the last two years, they are yet to strike the right chord.
Many of their late father’s fans will have an opportunity to dance to a number of hit tracks that include “Chitekete”, “Madhiri” and many others.
Tawanda Chingara, one of the co-ordinators of the show, said the gig was also meant to welcome summer and they are looking forward to a bumper crowd.
“We say goodbye to winter by spoiling our fans with this show as many couldn’t attend gigs due to the chilly weather and we expect this to be a gig to remember,” said Chingara.
